Used principally by ophthalmologists for blepharospasm it was more diluted to be used for destroy partially the muscles responsible of wrinkling the face. It works well in the frontal area because there is only one layer(plane) of muscle, less in the glabella, (2 layers), less for crow?s feet (2 layers), dangerous for nasolabial folds, marionettes or upper lip (3 layers or deep, medial and superficial planes of muscles of facial expression, speech and mastication). Why? Because the saline dilution of the toxine spread around and could induce palsy very harmful and inaesthetic.
It is one of my first motivations to develop in the nineties the ?FAMI technique?; It can restore each of the 20 muscles around the mouth with normal function and without ?Donald Duck lips deformity? due to horizontal inflation of the very thin Orbicularis muscle. I would generally discuourage you from undergoing botox to the lip to achieve a fuller look. It will relax and possibly drop the lip. (more)

BOTOX Cosmetic can often roll out the upper lip a bit but you need to be conservative. Too much BOTOX and the muscle will be weakened to the extent that you may difficulty closing your mouth. I generally use around 8 units total for the upper lip and then combine with a conservative amount of filler (usually 1 cc of Juvederm Ultra Plus). In my hands, this combination is generally the best for releasing the orbicularis and then structurally rolling out the lip and creating more volume. (less)
