Please Advise - Re saggy jowels
Hi there,

I have always always looked very young for my age - up until 2-3 years ago. The last 4 -5 years have been majorly stressful and it has caught up with me somewhat. Im 51 this year, slim and fit.
I have always felt attractive and good about myself - but then my jowls started to sag.

For the first time, late Feb 2012 I had fillers injected into my cheeks, a little around my mouth for just a few fine lines, a little running from my nose to my mouth and some into my chin as it has always bothered me being a little weak.

I wasn't sure what treatment I was going to get when I visited this practice, which incidentally was for the first time and had no idea it was going to cost so much.
I ended up paying way more than I had anticipated and there was poor communication with the price, I thought I was paying 1,800 but I ended up paying 2,600 - and wasn't that happy with the results - so I went back a week later.
The woman said I was still swollen and to give it time. She was so intimidating, uninterested and unsympathetic that I was and still are, reluctant to go back for fare of her response.

It has been about 3 months and I look just how I did before I saw her if not worse. I dont really look like me - and I still have saggy jowls!
I borrowed that money to have this done and feel absolutely disgusted with the treatment I had from her and this clinic.

Please help me with any advice as to what I should do. Im not ready to be old and saggy! :)
I was told by her that these 'great results would last 1.5 years' or so. ??

Many thanks for any advice,
Jo90

Fillers  May 8, 2012 1:46 PM

Pictures would help giving you an advise.
You seems to have had a significant amount of fillers in the face to pay $ 2600.
My guess you are not a candidate for fillers for facial rejuvention. But there are many unqualified injectors who are using fillers and Botox for facial rejuvenation where it is not indicated. These injectors are unqualified and use fillers because that is the only thing they have to generate income. Therefore fillers are being over used without regard to their indications. I think your injector should be reported to the BOARD OF NEDICINE in your state.
You might be a candidate for a facelift. Fillers and Botox do not replace the need for surgical rejuvenation.
Under no circumstance you should undergo a procedure without discussion of cost, expectations and risks.
Seek the opinion of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon (American Board Of Plastic Surgery) for a consultation, a discussion of the findings and the different options in facial rejuvenation you have.
Remember these discussions take about 1-2 hours of consultation, cost, risks, expected results and complications as well as who is reponsible for paying for complications and unwanted results. If surgery is needed the surgeon should be board certified and the facility should be an accredited facility.
Fillers and Botox should be done by the surgeon only. Injectors are not qualified.

saggy jowls  May 9, 2012 1:46 PM

I had the same problem you did. I had filler and now I have jowls where I didn't have them before. My previous facelift was 2008 and I looked great. Just wanted a little volume. ITS AWFUL and I went to a board cert PS who tried to fix with enzyme-now its worse. These doctors don't know what they're doing and only care about the money. I INSISTED mine return my money and he ultimately did. Ask for your money back and pray it gets better. I look old and saggy and cry a lot. Some of these doctors should be filled up with this stuff and see how it looks and feels. Don't do the enzyme-it makes it worse.

Go to an experienced injector for evaluation.  May 10, 2012 12:25 PM

This is a terrible experience to have to go through.
You need to have someone really experienced with injections look at your face.
It should be a doctor, and it should be someone who comes highly recommended. If you go to the allergan website, it will tell you who the biggest users of botox are in your area. These are probably going to be the most experienced and best injectors. Injection is a separate skill from surgery. I correct just as many injection mistakes by board certified surgeons as I do by nurses. I agree, however, that a consultation about surgery may not be a bad idea and in that case you should make sure that you speak with a board certified surgeon.
As far as you having spent all that money for little effect, you should keep on your doctor. She needs to be responsible for her results. Aesthetic practitioners need to do all we can to make sure that people who entrust us with their faces get excellent results.
Regarding the comment below, there really are many good doctors who know what they are doing and really want to help people. She should get another opinion (since I am in LA, I would be happy to see her at no charge). Enzyme actually works very well, but only for certain fillers (hyaluronic acid). Other fillers can be reduced with cortisone injections. I hope all this helps.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the results you were expecting. My best advice is to see a qualified practitioner, such as myself, who will be in a position to evaluate you correctly and review with you the findings of the examination and all the various alternatives available to improve your aesthetic appearance based on your budget and a detailed discussion of realistic expectations.

advise regarding facial fillers and jowels.   May 14, 2012 9:33 PM

Its difficult to give advise without photos. Fillers can be really effective in treating facial folds, loss of facial volume and in some cases early jowels. Like all treatments the results vary. Best results are achieved by an expert injector. Fillers are not a substitute for surgery. Your physician should have discussed the costs and limitations of the treatment. He or she should have also discussed the potential role of facelift surgery in treating the aging face. Happy to comment on photos.

update  May 15, 2012 6:26 AM

I have now seen an expert and been advised that the filler and enzyme have caused major sagging and fat loss in my face and I will need a revision to my facelift. This Dr apologized to me-he felt so bad-he said he cannot believe what this other doctor did to my face. Now I need to come up with 12,000 to fix this mess. DO NOT USE THE ENZYME-especially if you have aging skin. It will not bounce back. Start saving your money. A facelift is the only thing that will help. You can look for my posts and see the pics. I have gone to 3 top docs and they all told me the same thing. I will make it my business to tell everyone I know NOT to do fillers. Again-let me fill up the face of some doc and see how they do.
