Artecoll Description & Benefits

Artecoll, otherwise known as ArteFill, is a long-lasting injectable implant or facial filler. This facial filler is used to treat static facial lines, enlarge lips, fill in facial imperfections, and diminish nasolabial folds through a series of tiny injections under the skin's surface. It fills in the depression and raises the skin to its normal height. Artecoll is made of 75 percent collagen and 25 percent polymethylmethacrylate microspheres (PMMA). Artecoll can also correct acne scars, facial creases and irregularities of the nose. When an injection is given, the solution not only acts as a dermal filler, but its microspheres also stimulate the body to produce its own collagen. As the injected collagen slowly degrades naturally, the newly produced collagen replaces it thus producing long-lasting, almost permanent results.

Artecoll Procedure Steps

The Artecoll treatment usually lasts between 20-60 minutes. It can be used for frown lines between the eyebrows, worry lines across the forehead, crow's feet at the corner of the eyes, deep smile lines, definition of the lip border, vertical lines on the mouth, acne scars and other soft facial scars, and lips - for volume or help to re-define the border. The points of  injection are scored by the doctor with a marking pencil. Your doctor may select numerous injection points for each location to be treated. Using a very fine needle, the filler is injected just below the skin to fill out the depression. You may experience some minimal discomfort from the needle injection. Depending on the area treated, massaging may be used to smooth out the filler before it firms up. Injectable Fillers work by restoring lost volume which occurs primarily because of aging or weight loss.

Artecoll Recovery

Immediately after the injections, you may experience some swelling and bruising which typically subsides within 48 hours. The treated area may appear red for the first 24 hours and may last up to a week. It is safe to cover the treated areas with make-up if you wish. Avoid strenuous exercise, sun and drinking alcohol during this time. You may need to return to the doctor’s office in two to three weeks so that the results can be checked and topped up with more fillers if necessary. You can resume your normal activities immediately; however, you are advised to stay out of the sun. Ensure you use a total sun block if your skin must be unavoidably exposed to the sun. Sudden, severe pain or any symptoms that are progressive or seem unusual should be reported to the doctor immediately.
